How to Play

84 matches. 10 segments. One leaderboard. Here's how it all works.

The Basics

For every IPL match, you predict two things: who wins and who gets Man of the Match. That's it. Get it right, earn points. Climb the leaderboard. Talk trash to your friends.

The season has 74 matches split across 10 segments (9 regular + playoffs). Points per match increase as the tournament progresses, so late-season matches matter more.

Scoring

Correct winner
Match points (7–40 depending on match)
Winner + MOTM
Double the match points
Wrong winner
0 points — MOTM doesn't matter
Mid-week change
90% of normal points for changed matches

Segments & Bonus Points

Each segment runs Monday to Sunday. The player with the most points in a segment wins a segment bonus. Bonuses grow as the season progresses:

Deadlines

Predictions lock Monday at 7:00 PM IST (30 minutes before the first match of the week). You can change weekend match predictions before Friday's first match, but those changed predictions earn 90% of normal points.

Miss the deadline? The system auto-picks the home team and their captain as your default prediction. You won't get zero — but you probably won't like what it picks either.

Fire & Ice

Starting from Segment 3, you can activate Fire & Ice on any segment. It's a double-or-nothing bet on your own predictions:

  • Correct prediction: 1.5x points
  • Wrong prediction: −0.5x penalty (you lose points)

You get 3 uses for the entire season. Choose wisely — once you activate it for a segment, it applies to every match in that segment.

When to use it: when a dominant team has 3 home games in a segment, or you're on a hot streak. When not to: when the segment is full of coin-flip matchups. Like poker — position and confidence matter more than FOMO.

Note: Fire & Ice is not applicable to the Final Segment (Segment 10 — the four playoff matches). Playoff scoring uses its own option-based multipliers and dependencies; F&I cannot stack on top.

Excellence Bonus

Sustained performance earns milestone bonuses across two independent tracks:

Win Streak (consecutive correct winners)
7 in a row → +30 pts
9 in a row → +40 pts (replaces 30)
11 in a row → +60 pts (replaces 40)
MOTM Count (total correct MVPs)
7 total → +30 pts
9 total → +40 pts (replaces 30)
11 total → +60 pts (replaces 40)

Graduated, not cumulative. Higher milestone replaces lower. Maximum possible: 60 (streak) + 60 (MOTM) = 120 bonus points.

Win streak = consecutive correct winner predictions. One wrong resets to 0. Cancelled matches don't break it. MOTM count = total (not consecutive), so every correct MVP pick adds up over the season.

Nostradamus Bonus

Before the season heats up, predict three awards: Orange Cap (most runs), Purple Cap (most wickets), and Tournament MVP.

Early — before Match 48
Match 48 · 5 May 2026, 7:30 PM IST
40 pts per correct prediction
Late — before Segment 9 starts
Match 63 · 17 May 2026, 3:30 PM IST
20 pts per correct prediction

Max possible: 120 points if you nail all three early. That's a massive swing.

You can change your picks as many times as you want before each deadline. Only the final submission counts. The earlier you commit, the riskier it is — which is why it pays double.

Playoffs (Final Segment)

Playoff Team Predictions: Before Segment 8 starts (Match 55 · 11 May 2026, 7:30 PM IST), predict which 4 teams make the playoffs.

  • All 4 correct: 90 points
  • 3 of 4 correct: 40 points
  • 2 or fewer correct: 0 points

Playoff Match Base Points (Segment 10):

MatchStageBase PointsDate (IST)

M73Qualifier 23029 May 2026 · 7:30 PM
M74Final4031 May 2026 · 7:30 PM

MOTM doubles the match's points (subject to the option multiplier and dependency below).

Three Options for Playoff Predictions: You pick one option for the season. The option determines when you commit each pick and how Q2 & Final are scored.

Option A — Early Commitment

Lock in all 4 picks before Q1 starts (deadline 7:00 PM IST, 26 May).

  • Q1 (M71) & Eliminator (M72): full points, scored independently as soon as the match concludes.
  • Q2 (M73) & Final (M74) winner points score only if all 4 matches (Q1, Eliminator, Q2, Final) are correct. Miss any one winner and Q2 + Final winner points both pay 0.
  • MOTM still counts per match — if your picked Man-of-the-Match player wins the award, that portion scores even if the all-4 winner gate fails.

Team picker is constrained — once you pick a Q1 winner, Q2 only shows {Q1 loser, Eliminator winner}; once you pick Q2, Final only shows {Q1 winner, Q2 winner}. No hedging.

Option B — Semi-Adaptive

Predict Q1 & Eliminator before Q1 (deadline 26 May 7:00 PM IST), then Q2 & Final before Q2 (deadline 29 May 7:00 PM IST).

  • Q1 & Eliminator: full points, independent.
  • Q2: half points (15 base pts), scored independently when Q2 ends.
  • Final: half points (20 base pts), scored only if both Q2 and Final are correct.

Team picker is constrained for the Final only (Q2 has real teams by then). Q2 uses the actual bracket teams after Q1 and Eliminator conclude.

Option C — Fully Adaptive

Predict each match independently, just before its own kickoff. Deadlines: Q1/Eli 26 May 7:00 PM, Q2 29 May 7:00 PM, Final 31 May 7:00 PM.

  • Q1 & Eliminator: full points.
  • Q2: half points (15 base pts), independent.
  • Final: quarter points (10 base pts), independent — no dependency on Q2.

No team-picker constraints — you pick after the bracket teams are already known.

Quick comparison: Option A pays the highest if you nail it (max 200 pts + MOTM bonuses), Option C the lowest (~115 max) but with the lowest variance — each match scores on its own. Option B sits in between, swapping early commitment risk for adaptability.

Privacy & Reveal Rules

Each avatar can be marked public or private from its profile settings. Aggregate stats (total points, rank, streaks) are always visible — only individual picks are gated.

When a private avatar's picks become visible:

Pick TypeRevealed When
Match winner & MOTMThat match's kickoff has passed (per-match)
Playoff team picks (Top 4)Top-4 deadline (start of Segment 8, 11 May)
Nostradamus (Orange/Purple/MVP)Late Nostradamus deadline (17 May)
Playoff match picks (M71–M74)Each match's own kickoff — not the submission deadline
An Option A user who locked in their M74 pick way back on 26 May still has it hidden from other private viewers until 31 May 7:30 PM IST (M74 kickoff). The reveal rule is per-match, not per-submission — so committing early under Option A doesn't leak your hand.

Your own avatar's picks are always visible to you regardless of privacy. League admins can also see all picks within their league for administration purposes.

Run Your Own League

Anyone can create a league. Go to Create League and set it up:

  • League name & description — give it some personality
  • Public leaderboard — visible to everyone, or private to members only
  • Mid-week changes — allow or block mid-week prediction changes
  • Auto-lock predictions — lock 30 minutes before match start
  • Max avatars per user — set from 1 to 5 (see below)

Once created, you get a 6-character join code. Share it with your group — that's how people join. As the league admin, you can manage settings and players through the admin panel.

Multiple Avatars

A single user can create multiple avatars in the same league (up to the limit set by the league admin, default 3). Each avatar has its own predictions, points, and leaderboard position.

This is great for testing different strategies — go aggressive with one avatar (lots of Fire & Ice, contrarian picks) and play it safe with another. Or let family members share an account but compete independently.

When joining a league, choose how many avatars to create. Names are auto-generated as Name1, Name2, etc. You can also add more avatars later from the league page.

Rankings

Rankings update automatically after every match result. Each league has its own leaderboard.

  • Primary sort: total points (higher is better)
  • Tiebreaker: earlier join date ranks higher

You can be #1 in one league and #15 in another — different competition, different dynamics. Rankings include all points: match predictions, Fire & Ice multipliers, segment bonuses, excellence bonuses, Nostradamus, and playoffs.

When a match result is entered, the system automatically cascades: points calculated → streaks updated → excellence checked → segment bonus awarded (if last match) → rankings recomputed.
